Feng Shui Studies In China
In October of 2010, I decided to travel throughout China & Hong Kong to get my advanced training in feng shui. I have been a feng shui consultant for several years but I wanted to see this ancient culture & its traditional philosophies first hand, in order to deepen my understanding of the many facets, influences & applications of feng shui. While traveling around China, I realized how intriguing it was to see ancient dynasties, temples & settlements were built using feng shui principles thousands of years ago. But the remarkable thing was to see the contrast between ancient China & how feng shui is still being utilized in hustling, bustling and modern day cities, such as Shanghai & Hong Kong. China is under huge population pressures, unimaginable levels of development & a serious pollution problem, but I still witnessed Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tai Chi & Feng Shui being incorporated in modern day society.
During my travels, I saw the Terra Cotta Warriors, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven & Tiananmen Square. I climbed the Great Wall of China, experienced traditional tea ceremonies, shopped at local markets, received lots of massage & reflexology treatments, practiced tai chi, prayed at Buddhist temples & ate some very interesting food. It was a wonderful experience & I met some amazing people to share it with!
Looking back at this experience, I have definitely developed an even better understanding & appreciation of feng shui. Feng shui can be complex when all the elements of this philosophy are taken into consideration & applied. I feel that I have gained a deeper understanding of the five element theory & all the symbolism & auspicious practices that are present & visible throughout the country. I have always been drawn to Buddhism, but to be involved in festivals & celebrations is an indescribable experience, in which my spirit gathered more insight.
It is always invaluable to gain knowledge about something at the root or source of it...& that is exactly what this chance of a life time trip has given me. I am thrilled to have had this opportunity & look forward to applying all my knowledge & experience into all my future feng shui consultations & educating my clients in this magnificent art form.
